“The Dr. Seuss Experience,” a family-friendly immersive touring installation celebrating the children’s author and illustrator, is headed to The Shops at Centennial this month for an indefinite stay.
Just off a run in Chicago, “The Dr. Suess Experience” arrives at Centennial Promenade shopping complex on March 25, with tickets on sale as of today (Wednesday, March 2). The show is one of several touring shows taking advantage of the immersive trend in entertainment, which envelopes visitors in splashy environments and projections for a supposedly more engaging, interactive experience.
However, most of them are geared toward a general-audience or even older viewers; see the Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo immersive-touring exhibitions that have checked off Denver on their calendars. Kid-focused ones are exceedingly rare.
Enter “The Dr. Seuss Experience,” which boasts of sold-out runs in previous markets such as Chicago and Toronto. The show, which has no current end date for its Front Range run, features interactive, boldly colorful environments (think re-created Dr. Seuss scenes, a balloon maze and more) and costumed characters available for selfies and commemorative pictures.
“Visitors will step inside the narratives of treasured Dr. Seuss books like ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ ‘Horton Hears a Who!,’ ‘The Lorax,’ as well as several other timeless classics,” according to a press statement for the event.
The centerpiece is an interconnected maze of thousands of suspended balloons inspired by the artwork from ‘Oh, The Places You’ll Go!,” organizers wrote. “The Denver run will also premiere new and noteworthy additions to the Experience including an augmented reality scavenger hunt companion app, available free to guests who wish to further enhance their visit.”
