Immersive Dr. Seuss, Juneteenth’s free brewery series and more things to do in Denver
Step inside the world of Dr. Seuss
Opens Friday. The family-friendly “Dr. Seuss Experience,” inspired by the colorful imagery of the legendary children’s author and illustrator, will open this weekend for its immersive run, which lasts through Sept. 5.
Just off a stint in Chicago, “The Dr. Seuss Experience” has set up at Centennial Promenade shopping complex, with the tours opening on Friday, March 25. Kids and adults can walk through life-sized Dr. Seuss environments inspired by “The Cat in the Hat,” “Horton Hears a Who!,” and “The Lorax;” take pictures with costumed characters; and wander a lofty balloon maze.
Timed tickets are required, although they can also be purchased on-site, 9555 E. County Line Road in Centennial. $28 for children (1-13) and $35 for adults. Visit experienceseuss.com for more
Speed dating, classic drinks with women’s history
Tuesday. As Women’s History Month draws to a close next week, Denver-based nonprofit The Athena Project is spotlighting prominent historic women leaders of the west via speed-dating-style delivery.
The pop-up event, at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver, is being staged as a lecture-party, with one of historic Denver icon Margaret “Molly” Brown’s favorite cocktails, Bee’s Knees (a Prohibition-era favorite with gin, lemon juice and honey), on hand. The event is being held in conjunction with major Denver institutions such as the Black American West Museum and Center for Colorado Women’s History.
Attendees will move from station to station learning from local curators about women pioneers including Anne Evans, Dr. Justina Ford and the aforementioned Brown, organizers said. Music and a satellite bar from Panzano will also be on hand.
The event is 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver, 1717 Champa St. Tickets are free and can be reserved at athenaprojectarts.org/event/speed-dating-history-pop-up.
Juneteenth series mixes it up at Spangalang Brewery
Friday. Norman Harris III, who heads up Denver’s Juneteenth Music Festival (returning June 18-20), on Friday will debut his new Community Mashup series, 6-8 p.m. at Spangalang Brewery, 2736 Welton St.
Unlike your average meet-and-greet, this one is centered around a panel of Black realtors hoping to raise awareness about the Black homeownership gap in Denver’s pricey housing market. As with this one, future events will feature local leaders and residents, live music and entertainment, and networking opportunities with attendees, Harris said.
Attendance is free, and complimentary food will be provided by Cheba Hut. Facebook streaming is also available for virtual attendance, Harris said. Register at mashup.eventbrite.com or visit spangalangbrewery.com for more.
