I’m convinced Facebook is LISTENING to my conversations, suspicious user claims

ANOTHER Facebook user has shared wild accusations that the social network is listening to real-life conversations.

TikTok video maker Jasmine said she noticed something very peculiar on her Facebook feed after talking to her mum and friend about Mormons.

It's never been proven that Facebook listens to people's conversations

She claims she’s never searched the religious group before, yet adverts for it appeared on the social network.

“Today I was with my mum and a friend of hers and this friend knows someone who is a part of the Mormon church,” she explained.

“I don’t know much about it but I’ve heard of it before.

“And I’ve never Googled the word Mormon before and I have never searched the word Mormon on Facebook either – never, never, never.

“And what do you think pops up in my feed today on Facebook? A Mormon ad.”

She accused the tech giant of lying about listening to people’s conversations.

It’s not the first time Facebook has been accused of snooping via an iPhone or Android microphone.

We’ve previously heard how an American coffee shop owner spotted ads for oat milk after a conversation she had about the dairy alternative.

But it’s actually nothing more than an urban myth.

People have speculated about it for years but there has never been any solid evidence – beyond hearsay and anecdotes – that it happens.

Can Facebook listen to your conversations?

Facebook has repeatedly denied the claims, highlighting that it bases the ads you see on your interests and information from your profile.

A number of independent investigations have found no evidence that the US tech titan secretly listens to its users.

Experts say that, while Facebook hoards plenty of data, it’s extremely unlikely that the company secretly records hundreds of millions of people.

The key point is that Facebook doesn’t have to.

It knows enough about you from your browsing data and profile information to target you with very specific ads.

Facebook is able to build quite a detailed picture of what makes us tick.

Like many claims of Facebook hijacking phone microphones, the appearance of the ads was purely circumstantial.
