I’m a security expert – if you don’t know ‘landscape trick’ you may be a victim
CYBERSECURITY experts have shared a strategy for detecting cyberattacks and preventing them.
Kaspersky, a multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus provider, revealed that users can avoid cyberattacks by approaching them like a corporate warrior.
Specifically, by thinking of cybersecurity threats and attacks like landscape threats.
“In the field of corporate security, a threat landscape is the aggregate of cyber woes that threaten a company in a certain industry within a certain period of time,” Kaspersky explained.
“These include vulnerabilities, malware, and ransomware groups and the techniques they use,” it added.
“Why not create a threat landscape like that for yourself and base your own personal security strategy on it?”
In other words, a threat landscape can help define what you need to be protected against, and how to do it.
“This would keep you from getting bogged down with multiple layers of protection and help you keep on using the internet with at least some degree of comfort,” the firm said.
RECOGNIZING SCAMS
Building a threat landscape comprises being familiar with the most common scams out there.
Phishing is a form of social engineering where attackers trick people into revealing sensitive information.
A threat actor will reach out to an unsuspecting victim via email, SMS text, or social media messages.
They will usually add a malicious link or attachment in the email or messages that steal your information.
Data leaks are another common type of threat that users should stay vigilant against.
These occur when a company or individual experiences a security breach.
In turn, this results in personal information being exposed, which can then be used by scammers.
Romance scams involve the scammer pretending to be someone they’re not on a dating app.
They will often build up a relationship before asking for money or personal information.
