‘I’m a nincompoop’ Nigella Lawson addresses ‘vegan recipe’ blunder after fans call her out

TV chef Nigella Lawson, 62, had to backtrack on social media today after she mistakenly posted the supposed “vegan recipe”. The cooking pro ended up tweeting out another post to clear up any confusion after fans pointed out that her dish still contained animal products.

This afternoon, Nigela tweeted out to her 2.7 million followers: “#RecipeOfTheDay is one that suits both #cookjan and #Veganuary and, frankly, suits me all the time, regardless of hashtaggery; Noodles with Mushrooms and Mangetouts (snow peas to some).”

Attached was a picture of a verdant-looking bowl of noodles, topped with lots of delicious looking veggies.

However, Nigella’s recipe actually includes egg noodles, which are not vegan.

The vegan diet prohibits all animal products, including eggs, milk, and cheese, as well as meat and fish.

Veganuary is a movement that has become popular in recent years, in which people opt to stick to a vegan diet throughout the month of January as a New Year’s resolution.

Under Nigella’s post, one Twitter user Dee Catz wrote: “great recipe – perhaps not vegan with egg noodles though?”

“You’re so right! Thank you,” Nigella tweeted back apologetically.

Reposting the original tweet with a new caption, Nigella wrote: “I’m a nincompoop: this is vegetarian not vegan.

“But you win Twitter today by using the word nincompoop,” wrote KarriemacK with laughing and clapping emojis.

“My mum used to call me a nincompoop when I was a kid and being a bit silly – I love this word!!” added Sarah Balchin.

Tracy Ward commented: “You’re amazing! Not heard that saying for a long time! But your definitely not a nincompoop!!!”

“Nincompoop? I haven’t heard or thought of that word in 40 years!” added Embedee.

“This paaasta looks delish!!! Just ate one with spinach,” wrote Malina.

“Also I’m learning from u every single day with ur colourful vocabulary.”

Nigella is an English food writer and television cook, who has been a staple of cooking on British TV since the early 2000s.

Her first book, How to Eat, was published and sold 300,000 copies, while her follow up book in 2000, How to Be a Domestic Goddess, won the British Book Award for Author of the Year.
