I’m A Celeb’s Phil Tufnell says show is one of his ‘favourite things’

Former cricketer Phil Tufnell, 56, is one of the most loved contestants to have taken part in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! after winning the show almost 20 years ago.

Now, Phil is recycling his camp shirt for the highly anticipated South Africa spin-off, which will air next month.

In an interview with Express.co.uk, which was conducted before his return to the show was confirmed, Phil opened up about his fondness for the ITV staple.

He gushed: “It is one of my favourite shows and one of my favourite things.

“I don’t know why we like seeing people with snakes shoved around them or dropped into buckets of gunge, it’s quite a weird thing, isn’t it?

“But I like seeing how the [campmates] interact and everything and how little stories build.”

Along with Phil, the other stars returning to face more Bushtucker Trials are Carol Vorderman, Helen Flanagan, Amir Khan, Jordan Banjo, Fatima Whitbread, Paul Burrell, Janice Dickinson and Shaun Ryder.

The all-star series will see the contestants compete against each other in a battle to become the first ever I’m A Celebrity Legend.

On Thursday, former Countdown star Carol hinted that there may have been some drama within the camp while filming the “brutal” series.

Appearing on Lorraine, Carol gave her thoughts on her fellow campmates and hinted that she may have had a falling out with ex-model Janice.

She revealed that she had “fallen in love” with former Coronation Street star Helen, and branded Amir “one of the funniest men on earth”.

She then quickly brushed over her other campmate, saying: “Janice Dickinson we’ll not talk about her so much.”

Lorraine simply replied: “Bonkers!” as Carol agreed: “Yes bonkers shall we say.”

Former royal butler Paul previously claimed to the presenter that the show saved his life.

He went for the medical before filming began and they found a “raised PSA level”.

His GP said he was still able to do the show but once he returned to the UK and had an MRI scan and biopsy, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
