Christine Hamilton, who appeared on the very first series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, has detailed her ordeal of heading to hospital after her knee ‘popped out’.

Sharing updates on social media, the TV personality uploaded a photo of her legs, with her right knee looking extremely swollen as she wrote: ‘Methinks my right knee is trying to tell me something not quite right.’

The 73-year-old explained to her followers that she ended up in A&E after dislocating the joint, explaining that she had been ‘doing nothing much before you ask’.

‘Had [a] new one last June & something has “popped out”. Not sure where we go from here but I’m grounded for a while whatever. Very bothersome (& ruddy painful) to put it mildly,’ she stated.

To rub even more salt in the wound, Christine revealed that it was also her 40th anniversary with her husband, former Conservative MP Neil Hamilton, on the day that she was hospitalised.

The author, who’s appeared on TV shows including Celebrity MasterChef, Have I Got News For You and This Morning, shed light on her experience in A&E in a ‘busy hospital’ on a Saturday night, saying that it was ‘not an ideal place to be’.

‘One patient had 2 police escorts,’ she revealed, before giving a shoutout to the members of staff who looked after her, thanking them for their ‘kindness and expert care’ and for looking after her ‘when at a very low ebb’.

After spotting a sign that said that the average wait time in A&E could clock up to between four and six hours, Christine informed her followers that this ‘dire warning’ turned out to be a ‘false alarm’ for her.

‘Just back from blood test in advance of surgery tomorrow pm. Before anyone accuses me of queue jumping – this is ‘trauma emergency’ not ‘elective’. Anyone in my position wd be treated the same [sic],’ she outlined.

In a message to the people who reached out to her with kind words, Christine wrote: ‘Huge THANK YOU to you lovely people for all your good wishes – v much appreciated. Back in ward after surgery; all good. Just replaced bit in knee that had “popped out” & tighten things up a bit. #Onwards&Upwards.’

She later shared a photo of her ‘culprit’ knee all bandaged up, before disclosing that her journey home wasn’t smooth-sailing.

‘Absobloomin’lutely unbelievably bad luck – just managed to escape from Hospital with poorly knee & ground to halt on Mway home – ‘animals on road’. Not expected to clear until 2015!!! #Aaaaargh,’ she tweeted, before traffic finally started moving and they were able to get going again.

In 2002, Christine finished in third place on I’m A Celebrity behind the winner, radio presenter Tony Blackburn, and the runner-up, socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

She took part in two Bushtucker Trials on her own, achieving a full house of seven stars in the first, and two out of three stars in the second, scoring an overall success rate of 90%.
