REPAIR claims for electric vehicles have more than tripled in the past three years, car insurance experts have said.
The figures revealed by specialist warranty firm MotorEasy, who reported a 370 per cent increase in repair claims for electric cars.

It is believed that an ageing fleet is the main reason behind the soaring statistics.
MotorEasy said in a statement: “The growth is partly explained by an increase in the number of EVs that MotorEasy now has under warranty cover.
“But it is also reflective of an ageing EV fleet, with problems now starting to emerge.”
The warranty firm said that the average claim across MG’s electric range was £430 (MG4 EV).
That has since soared to £2,200.
“A similar trend can also be seen with Tesla, with the cost of claims rising 231 per cent since 2021,” MotorEasy noted.
Duncan McClure Fisher, CEO of MotorEasy’s parent company Intelligent Motoring, hit back by saying similar issues are seen in non-electric vehicles.
He said: “While there remains a perception that EVs have fewer moving parts and less can go wrong with them, in reality we’re seeing an equivalent mix of failures to petrol and diesel vehicles.”
However, a report published by Thatcham Research earlier this year revealed that battery electric vehicle incident claims are currently 25.5% more expensive than petrol and diesel vehicles.
It is also stated that BEV’s can take 14% longer to repair.
Elsewhere, a major car firm has made a U-turn on the decision to scrap a popular petrol model – because it’s cheaper than EVs.
The company has decided it will continue to offer customers an affordable petrol model and abandon plans to go fully electric for the moment.
Although EV’s are supposed to be the future of driving across the world, one expert has warned that diesel cars remain on top.
That’s the opinion of Mat Watson from Carwow, who states that EV’s are not even close to touching diesel vehicles in the present day.
With EV reputations seemingly on a downward spiral, Tesla have decided to cut the price of popular models in a bid to increase demand.
