Car experts say that a dirty or damaged air filter limits the amount of air flowing into your car’s engine, making it work harder and, therefore, using more fuel.

Will Bullen of Car Lease Special Offers said to the Daily Express: “Dirty air filters cause your engine to work harder than it has to, which means more fuel is used.

“You should follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to change these as needed to help boost your fuel economy.”

Handily, a TikTok user, @carpartscom, uploaded a video showing how to replace the air filters.

The TikTok user takes the dirty filters and introduces the new ones in the compartment.

And then he closes the compartment.

He said on the video: “arrows should point the direction of the airflow.”

Surprisingly, most commenters didn’t know that the air filters had to be changed.

One said: “Lol, I don’t even know where my air cabin filter is…and I have a used 2001 Nissan frontier.”

Another said: “I didn’t even know cabin filters existed…”

A third pointed out: “That exists?”

And a TikTok user shared an app that lets drivers compare and review petrol stations in their local area for free.
