Im a car expert – here are the best cars for cheap insurance
A MOTORS EXPERT has revealed the best cars for cheap insurance – and it can help drivers to save hundreds of pounds.
Making an effort to find cheap car insurance is one of the best ways for motorists to save money, and choosing a motor with a low insurance rating is a great start.
Every car on sale in the UK is categorised into an insurance group determined by the Association of British Insurers.
The safety technology, security, and cost of car repair are all considered when determining its group rating.
And the car is then rated from 1 to 50 – 1 being the cheapest and 50 being the most expensive.
Handily, car experts at Auto Express have come up with a ranking of the cheapest cars to insure in the UK this year.
Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta is the cheapest car to insure due to the availability of spare parts and the low cost of repairs.
Two of the three models in insurance group 5 have Ford’s 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine.
This three-cylinder engine may appear small, but it has a good amount of power for its size, is enjoyable to drive, and has good fuel efficiency.
Hyundai i10
The latest i10 is much improved over its predecessor; better looking with a decent level of kit included as standard.
Insurance groups for the i10 are very low, so premiums should be affordable – but buyers should keep in mind that Hyundai’s city car is quite pricey to buy when compared to its rivals.
Kia Picanto
Kia has experienced a design revolution over the last few years – and the Picanto is a clear example.
Although it has far more technology than the previous generation, it maintains the prior model’s small size and low price with insurance cover to match.
Kia Rio
The Kia Rio is a bigger car than the Picanto, but also occupies lower insurance groups.
The 1.2-litre 83bhp model, in either the ‘1’ or ‘2’ trim specification, sits in insurance group 4.
The base model includes automatic headlights and air conditioning, but if you want extras such as smartphone connectivity and cruise control, you need to go for the 2 trim level
Seat Ibiza
One of the larger cars in group 3, the Ibiza, is an excellent option if you are looking for something more practical.
SEAT’s supermini is now available as a five-door, so this, along with its overall size provides a reasonable amount of room for all passengers.
This comes after a car expert came up with a list of the best cars for new drivers.
Plus, a motors expert revealed the best seven-seater cars on the market.
