IIM-Vizag logs threefold rise in MBA intake in last four years – Times of India

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam (IIMV) inducted 380 students as the 9th batch of its flagship postgraduate programme in management (PGP/MBA class of 2023-25) on Tuesday. This is the first time for the IIMV to admit more than 300 students in an academic year in its PGP programme.
The premier business school witnessed a threefold increase in enrollment in the last four years – from an intake of 123 students in 2019 to 380 this season. As has been the trend, engineering/technology graduates dominated the 2023-25 batch with a 70% representation of the entire cohort, whereas pupils from science streams took the second position by accounting for 10% of the total batch. About 39% of the new bunch of students are girls, the highest for any batch in recent times at IIMV.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) chairman and managing director Dr Pushp Kumar Joshi was the chief guest for the inaugural of the MBA batch conducted here in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. The event also marked the launch of 5th batch of PhD programme. Seven students were given admission into the research programme.
PGP intake in the last five years:

Delivering the inaugural address, Dr Joshi suggested the students distinguish between information and knowledge. “Simply accumulating knowledge does not do any good until it is practically applied. You have time and again proved that you have a superior IQ. But that is not sufficient for a good professional career. Having an equivalent emotional quotient would prove as an important competency. On top of IQ and EQ, you should develop SQ (spiritual quotient). This has nothing to do with religion, but something deeper than that. It is all about identifying your noble purpose in life, what do you want to achieve in life, and what do you want to become,” said Dr Joshi addressing the students. He stressed on developing the art of questioning for students to develop their horizons.
The HPCL CMD suggested the students prepare a not-to-do list in addition to the to-do list. “The most integral part of discipline comes from understanding what not to do. The not-to-do list should be longer than what to do,” said Dr Joshi. He also explained to the students the ways to avoid distractions such as social media.

IIMV Director Prof M Chandrasekhar told the students that discipline will be the bridge between their ambitions and achievements. Quoting Author Cal Newport from the book ‘So Good They Can’t Ignore You’, Prof Chandrasekhar said that if you aspire for a great career, you must build rare and valuable skills. “In this distracted world, you must be in a position to take guilt-free breaks from technology. You should turn your FOMO (fear of missing out) into JOMO (joy of missing out),” said Prof Chandrasekhar. He explained the achievements of the institute since its inception in 2015.
