IIM Vizag Convocation 2023: Self-management key to emerge as best managers, says Suresh Prabhu – Times of India

Visakhapatnam: Self-management is key to emerge as the best manager, said former Union minister and chancellor, Rishihood University, Suresh Prabhu. He was the chief guest for the seventh annual convocation of Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam that was conducted on Wednesday.
Delivering the convocation address, Suresh Prabhu said that self-management cannot be outsourced or taught in classroom or remote learning. “This is an externality to all the technical and subject knowledge you studied and acquired over the years. But in a way it is an internality that you all should master ” said Suresh Prabhu to the students.
A total of 239 students of various courses received their degrees during the convocation ceremony. Gold medals were awarded to the toppers of various programmes, including Ayan Verma, Prapti Alok, Kunal Ranjan, Tanmay Gupta, Minhaz Ahmad and Ashim Chhabra, on this occasion. Apart from these, the Vani Row memorial gold medal has gone to Prapti Alok, while a gold medal for best all-round performance among the PGP students has bestowed on Ayan Verma.
Suresh Prabhu asked the students to prepare for the externalities, which come announced and which the managers do not have control over at the workplaces. “We should prepare for the war during peace time,” said Suresh Prabhu. He explained the initiatives taken up during his tenure as the railway minister and the origin of Vande Bharat, which was initially named as ‘Train 18’. He also spoke about the importance of environmental, social, and corporate governance.
Former IIM Bangalore director and member of Board of Governors of IIM Vizag, Prof G Raghuram, spoke about the transforming innovations happening in the artificial intelligence area. “These can change the way management education would be delivered. In these emerging scenarios, business schools like IIM Vizag have to figure out how the future workforce would look like and what it should be equipped with. A new breed of techno teachers and digital natives are all set to emerge,” said Prof Raghuram.
IIM Vizag director Prof M Chandrasekhar presented the annual director’s report. He explained the achievements and the first-mover initiatives of the institute. “We are significantly expanding our footprint in executive education and management development programmes.
