IIM-Vizag celebrates women’s day – Times of India

VISAKHAPATNAM: Gender inequality is quite prevalent, and both men and women need to collaboratively work to create a balanced ecosystem at work, said Prof Deepika Gupta, chief financial officer, Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam Foundation for Incubation, Entrepreneurial Learning, and Development (IIMV-FIELD)

As part of international women’s day celebrations, IIMV-FIELD hosted prominent women leaders from various fields for a panel discussion on “creating a gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”

The panellists had a discussion on root causes for gender inequality and how this can be addressed at family level first to overcome the age-old social conditioning. Tanya mentioned the need to teach children about their rights and access to equal opportunities based on their individual merit.
The event commenced with a welcome note from Prof. Mohammad Shameem Jawed, chief operating officer, IIMV-FIELD. He spoke about the accomplishments of IIMV-FIELD. “Initially when IIMV-FIELD began operating in 2018, there were 25 budding women entrepreneurs in the first cohort. But at present, there are 46 women entrepreneurs, 52 start-ups incubated and six flagship programmes being offered under IIMV-FIELD,” said Prof Shameem.

Sravya Vasireddy, Assistant Manager, IIMV-FIELD moderated the panel discussion on what role individuals can play to break the bias and create a gender-friendly ecosystem.

Discussing this year’s UN theme, panel member Aruna Gali, entrepreneur (School Radio), said that climate change is real, and it is impacting women and children. “People should start working towards conserving the environment to pave a way for a sustainable tomorrow for every living being,” said Aruna.

Fashion Designer (Label Tayna) Tanya Dhawan and editor-in-chief (Red Magazine) Sarada V. provided their perspective on the prevailing gender inequality

On the eve of Women’s day, IIM Visakhapatnam also hosted Rashmi Chowdhary, additional secretary, department of personnel and training. She raced the history of international women’s day and discussed the critical concerns of gender diversity in all walks of life. She spoke about how maintaining diversity at the workplace offers a better and conducive environment. Rashmi stressed on ensuring gender parity for less-privileged women and ended her speech with emphasising on the active role that men must play towards better gender inclusiveness.

Director, IIM-Vizag, Prof. M Chandrashekhar spoke about women’s contribution in the society and the significance of celebrating women’s day. He highlighted the assertive steps that the institute is taking to ensure gender diversity across all stakeholders including faculty, staff, and students.

Prof. Amit B Chakrabarti, coordinator (academics & research), IIM Visakhapatnam congratulated all the women of the IIM-V.
