IELTS paper leaked in Bhopal – Times of India

BHOPAL: Koh-e-Fiza police on Monday registered a case on charges of cheating and hatching criminal conspiracy against three named accused and others in connection with the leak of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam paper. IELTS is an English-language test for Visa applicants, who want to go to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and many European countries.
The accused hatched the conspiracy three months back and when the paper bundle reached Bhopal by flight, an accused with the help of a cargo/courier company employee and the owner of a loading vehicle attached to the courier company took the packet from them in exchange of Rs 1 lakh. The accused scanned the paper and returned the bundle to the courier company employee and loading vehicle owner. The incident took place in February after which the courier company conducted an investigation and filed a complaint with Koh-e-Fiza police.
Police have arrested the two accused including the courier company employee and the loading vehicle owner. Rs 80000 have been recovered from them. The search was on to nab the third, the prime accused, who purchased the paper from them for Rs 1 lakh. Police have his mobile number which was found to be issued in Uttar Pradesh but it was switched off.
SHO Koh-e-Fiza Vijay Sisodia said that the complainant Sunil Saxena, 46, a resident of Sundar Nagar in Ashoka Garden, is posted as operations in-charge in a courier company. The company office is located in MP Nagar. The company delivers couriers and parcels received through flights.
SHO Sisodia said that Saxena in his complaint stated Gurgaon-based company is their company’s client. The company organises the IELTS exam for visa applicants who want to go to Canada, Australia, the UK and other countries.
SHO Sisodia said that the Gurgaon-based company had sent a parcel of IELTS question papers by a flight from Gurgaon to Bhopal on February 8. The flight reached Bhopal on February 9 in the morning. The company employee Kapil Karan received the parcel at the airport and loaded it in the loading vehicle. Then he along with the loading vehicle driver waited for a parcel from the next flight which was to land shortly. Meanwhile, the loading vehicle owner Sheikh Shafi reached the cargo office located at State Hangar and asked the driver to step out of the vehicle. He along with Kapil took the vehicle loaded with IELTS paper bundles to some other place. There was an SUV waiting for them at the service road. Shafi and Kapil boarded the SUV with the IELTS paper bag. They went to a hotel in Panchvati Colony where Kapil remained in the SUV while Shafi took the bag carrying IELTS papers to a room on the first floor. There he met the prime accused Deepak and he gave the bag to him. Deepak went inside the room in which there were other people present. A few minutes later, he returned the bag carrying IELTS papers, as it is, to Shafi. Then Shafi and Kapil returned to the spot and kept the bag in its place.
SHO Sisodia said that Saxena in his complaint stated that the loading vehicle unloaded the parcels at their company’s office located in Govindpura. The bag carrying IELTS papers was to be delivered on February 11 so it was kept under CCTV surveillance at the MP Nagar office. Two days later, another employee of the courier company delivered the IELTS paper bag to the examination centre in charge of a hotel in the ISBT area. The company received a complaint on the same day from their Delhi office that the bag carrying IELTS question paper was tampered with. Subsequently, an investigation team of the courier company from Delhi came to Bhopal to investigate the matter. When the team interrogated Kapil, the matter was revealed. He told the team that Shafi planned the conspiracy with Deepak three months back and got Rs 1 lakh in exchange which they divided between them. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case against Kapil Karan, Sheikh Shafi, Deepak and others under relevant sections and a search was on to nab Deepak on the basis of his mobile number. Further investigations were on.
