After enduring severe injuries from a car accident in 2018, the former nurse also lives with multiple heart conditions and chronic illness.

Stephanie is in constant pain after the car crash left her digestive system “paralysed”.

She now has to be hooked up to a feeding tube for around 18 hours a day and is often left feeling nauseous and sick.

But the 27-year-old was left stunned when she was targeted by a group of girls who taunted her for parking in a disabled spot – even with her permit displayed.

“So this is a series of all of the times I’ve parked in a disabled spot and have been judged, attacked, verbally abused or I’ve had my car damaged,” she said in a TikTok video.

“Somebody threw ice cream at my car because I was parked in a disabled spot.

“It’s sad but it’s been twice now that ice cream has been the weapon of choice – I only park in these spots when I NEED to, not to prove a point.”

Stephanie recalls parking her car in a pharmacy carpark with her fiance Adam, when they spotted the group watching them.

“As we were reversing into the car space, the group of girls were waiting for us to reverse,” she said.

“My disabled permit is on the dash, you can see it, it’s very visible, it’s quite large, it’s bright blue, it’s very hard to miss.”

She said that the bunch of judgemental girls, aged 18 to 20, initially assumed the permit belonged to her grandparents because she didn’t “look disabled”.

“They looked at us with frowns, they were like, ‘that’s a disabled spot’,” she said.

“And then they went into the McDonald’s Drive Thru which was right next to where we were parking.

“We thought that was the end of it. They drove past us, they had their look, they had smart a*** comments and then we went into the pharmacy.”

But 15 minutes later, the couple returned to the carpark and were shocked at what they found.

“We walk back out to our car and the first thing Adam notices is ice cream all over the front bonnet and guard,” Stephanie recalled.

“What they did was they went through Drive Thru, came back out and threw an entire soft serve cone onto our car”.

Stephanie also mentioned that she often wears clothes that “cover everything” so she understands why people may assume she is not disabled.

She says that she would be open to explaining to people the reasons why she has a disabled parking permit.

“Just say, ‘Hey you know that’s a disabled spot?’ I’ll go, ‘Yeah that’s okay, I have a disabled pass, I’ve got some disabilities or chronic illness,” she said.

“I’ll tell you my whole life story. I’m so open.”

Her video has been watched over 195,000 times and supportive viewers have flocked to her comments to share their experiences and support.

One wrote: “When will people learn that not all disabilities are visible”.

Another said: “I have a disability that is not visible and have a disability sticker, some people won’t understand unfortunately”.
