Iconic sports car owned & specially modified by F1 cult hero could be yours
AN ICONIC sports car which was owned and specially modified by a F1 cult hero could be yours.
The 1998 Nissan Skyline up for auction was previously owned and upgraded by Formula 1 driver Johnny Herbert.
The former Sky pundit’s much sought after ‘Series 3’, which has just 45,000 miles, has a guide price of between £58,000 and £68,000.
The sale description explains: “By April 1998 it had been exported from Japan to the UK and was registered to the Formula 1 driver Johnny Herbert, who at the time was driving for the Sauber team.
“The car was assigned the distinctive registration ‘R30 GTR’, which it has always worn (and still does).
“Johnny’s ownership is well-documented on the car’s original UK logbook, by an accompanying light-hearted sales note, in magazine clippings and in a series of photographs of him posing with the car – and looking suitably proud of it.”
Hebert, 59, raced in Formula One between 1989-2000 and battled frequently against Micheal Schumacher.
The racing superstar suffered a horrific ski accident while with his son Mick, on the slopes above Méribel in the French Alps in 2013.
In September, Herbert revealed his former pal was “not close” to his former self following his ski crash and that his friends are often left in the dark about his health.
A more mainstream Nissan, the Qashqai, has previously been honoured as The Sun Car Of The Year.
Other car auctions revealed this month include a retro Ford, a 1940 V8 Endurance Rally Coupe Deluxe model, going under the hammer at London’s Bonhams.
Also up for auction is an Audi RS6 once owned by Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp, brother of ex-EastEnders star Martin Kemp.
