A hungry new mum has been branded an ‘icon’ after a picture of her eating a Greggs vegan sausage roll hours after giving birth caught attention online.

The new mum took to Twitter to share a snap of her cradling baby Meadow while chowing down on a Greggs staple.

‘When the hospital food just doesn’t cut it … @GreggsOfficial (4 hours after giving birth) will do the trick,’ Lottie Adele, 36, wrote.

The mum-of-two from Preston, Lancashire, had just come around from a planned C-section and, feeling peckish, sent her boyfriend Luke to pick her up a snack.

Seeing the local Greggs across the road, Luke knew it would be just what she needed.

‘I was starving – all I’d eaten was a little bit of toast,’ she said.

‘Then we were just really hungry, so I made my boyfriend go across the road to get a Greggs.

‘I don’t even eat meat, it was a vegan sausage roll. It was still just as good.’

Luke got himself ‘about four sausage rolls,’ Lottie added.

‘I didn’t realise how hungry I was but when I had it I was so relieved, it was great.’

The iconic picture was completely unplanned, too: ‘I didn’t even know he was taking those pictures,’ Adele said. ‘It was a moment just holding my newborn.’

Adele’s tweet was spotted by the Greggs social media account, who shared it with their followers.

‘What a beautiful sausage roll,’ they wrote.

Twitter users were obsessed.

One person commented: ‘This will absolutely be me one day, 99% sure I want to serve Greggs at my wedding too.’

Another wrote: ‘I swear she better call the baby Gregg…’

Another wrote: ‘Icon.’
