This particular Lamborghini is one of the first five examples of the 500S/5000S- and is offered for sale by Driver Source.

It includes several rare features not shared with later cars, like the unique “5L” badging, LP400S-style, flares up front and a set of cast magnesium Campagnolo wheels.

DriverSource said: “Having already made its mark in less than a decade of existence with a succession of GT models and the breathtaking Miura – regarded the world’s first supercar – Automobili Lamborghini dramatically revealed its future at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show.

“Styled by Marcello Gandini for Bertone, the Countach drew inspiration from his Alfa Romeo Carabo show car of 1968 and the futuristic Bertone Zero concept of 1970.”

After its time in Geneva, this particular Countach was sold to a buyer in Italy.

Two years later, it made its way to Germany before settling down across the Atlantic in 1985.

To register the sports car for use in California, the engine’s Weber carburettors were swapped over for an electronic fuel-injection system.

Once it was legal to be driven in the US state, it was bought by Quiet Riot guitarist Carlos Cavazo.

In 2001, the Countach was towed to Franco’s European Sports Cars in Van Nuys, California, and has remained there for twenty years, Yahoo News reports.

This supercar is now being offered for sale in its current “as discovered” condition, and it includes historical documents, images highlighting its pedigree and an unmounted rear wing.

This comes after a stunning fleet of classic Italian cars was sold at auction for £1million pounds.

Plus, a rare mini abandoned in a shed for decades was sold for more than £52,000 at auction.
