Iceland announces more store closures – full list of affected sites in September

Iceland has decided to close more stores across the UK due to changes in “local shopping patterns”.

The executive chairman of Iceland Foods, Richard Walker, told Express.co.uk that “a small number of store closures happen every year,” and that can also be because some “shop leases expire”.

The Iceland branch in Llanelli, Wales, will be permanently closing its doors on September 2, and the store in Grange Road, Birkenhead, will be closing on September 16.

However, the supermarket announced it will also be opening new sites after the summer. Iceland recently opened a new store in Kendal, Cumbria, and new shops are also expected in Slough and Aberdeen.

Richard Walker told Express.co.uk: “Across Iceland and The Food Warehouse we have a portfolio of over UK 1,000 stores, and our retail estate has grown by nearly 200 stores over the last 10 years.

“We typically open more than 20 new stores each year, creating many new jobs and contributing to the growth of local economies.

“At the same time, we continually review the retail experience offered to our customers and have always made a small number of store closures every year, as local shopping patterns change and shop leases expire.

“The business is currently trading very strongly, achieving record market shares. Customers can find their closest Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores www.iceland.co.uk/store-finder.”

Iceland stores closing in September:

  • Llanelli, Wales – closing on September 2
  • Grange Road, Birkenhead – closing on September 16
