Ice-T hits out at wild Jamie Foxx conspiracy theory after star’s mystery illness
Jamie Foxx has been subjected to a mounting conspiracy theory that he was replaced with a clone during his undisclosed illness but Ice-T isn’t having any of it.
The Oscar-winning actor, 55, suffered a medical emergency in April and was rushed to hospital where he spent several weeks receiving treatment before being released.
However, it has not been revealed what caused Jamie’s hospitalisation and there were virtually no updates from his family aside from the occasional statement from his daughter Corinne Foxx. The radio silence from Jamie’s inner circle sparked heightened concerns and led to conspiracy theories on social media, notably the outlandish rumour that he was cloned during his time out of the spotlight.
Over the weekend, the Ray actor returned to Instagram and spoke in a video for the first time since he fell ill.
Fans and Jamie’s celebrity friends were relieved to finally hear from the actor personally but there were trolls who commented on his appearance, using his apparent weight loss as a sign that he had been cloned, a wild rumour that Jamie even addressed in the video.
One demanded to know: ‘That’s a clone, we’re is the real jamie [sic],’ while another critic joined in: ‘Looks like AI. Definitely not him.’
Fuelling the extraordinary conspiracy theory, one wrote: ‘Don’t believe the hype! They Cloned Tyrone drops on Netflix a few days ago, and now all of a sudden, the Foxx is out the box ????????????????????????♀️! Not, sure who this is!! Why is nobody asking what happened??? AI, cloned or deep fake, but that’s scripted, and he looks like he’s in an all white padded room sitting down! Something isn’t right.’
Others pointed out the coincidence that Jamie’s new Netflix movie, They Cloned Tyrone, was released on Friday, the same day he posted the video to Instagram.
As the conspiracy theories ran wild, rap legend and actor Ice-T, 65, weighed in to defend the actor. Alongside side-by-side photos of Jamie before his illness and in the new video, he wrote: ‘People would rather believe that Jamie is now a Clone or Ai, than the man was just seriously sick and damn near died…
‘Cause he doesn’t look EXACTLY the same??? YOU look different after a bad cold! Smh weirdos.’
In his comeback video, Jamie became tearful as he recalled his ordeal, describing how he ‘went to hell and back’ and that he didn’t want fans to see him with tubes in the hospital.
He explained: ‘I cannot tell you how great it feels for your family to kick in in such, a way. And y’all know they kept it airtight, they didn’t let nothing out. They protected me, and I hope that’s something everyone can have in moments like these.
‘But by being quiet sometimes things get out of hand… some people said I was blind but as you can see the eyes are working just fine,’ he said – while crossing his eyes humorously.
‘Some said I was paralysed, I’m not paralysed but I went to hell and back and my road to recovery had some potholes as well. But Im coming back and I’m able to work so I want to thank people to let me work. I love everybody and I love all the love I got.’
The Dreamgirls actor then addressed the clone rumours and stated: ‘Some people tell me I’m a clone. Well check this out,’ he said, before reaching as though to pull his face off like a mask – then stopping and saying: ‘Just kidding. Not a clone.’
‘But I’m here on earth because of some great people, Im here on earth because of God. So I just wanted to jump on here and let y’all know I’m on my way back.’
