Bukayo Saka’s form is ‘worrying’ and Mikel Arteta should consider benching the Arsenal star for the run-in.

That’s according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who believes the winger is suffering the effects of the Gunners’ long season.

Saka’s been in sensational form for the Gunners this term and has, at times, carried the side’s title challenge.

But he’s scored just once in his last six appearances, with Saka appearing fatigued after a long season that included a mid-campaign World Cup.

Arsenal must win all of their remaining matches to stand a chance of winning the title and even then it may not be enough to stop Manchester City from retaining their crown.

But Wright believes that Arteta should consider the unthinkable by dropping Saka, as he’s in need of a rest.

‘Maybe Saka should get a little bit of a rest,’ said Wright.

‘I think a little rest. Maybe my mouth is going to quickly for my brain, in this situation we can’t afford to lose anymore games.

‘We need everybody out there, but I just worry, I worry for him.’

Arsenal face a daunting trip to in-form Newcastle on Sunday and cannot afford anything but a win in the north-east.

City take on Leeds at the Etihad 24 hours earlier, where they’ll have a chance to extend their lead at the top.
