Iain Lee now qualified counsellor after own addiction and mental health issues
Iain Lee has announced he is now a fully-qualified counsellor after battling his own addiction issues and mental illness.
The comedian and radio star had formerly hosted a show on TalkRadio before it was axed in 2020, which he previously admitted left him feeling ‘low.’
Now Iain – who has also appeared on reality shows including I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! – has branched out to something different entirely.
Admitting he was a ‘little nervous’ to put out the news, a proud Iain revealed: ‘I recently qualified as a counsellor.
‘Got my diploma a few weeks ago.’
He added that his website is currently being built, however he is ‘ready to start seeing clients.’
Touching on his own mental health journey, Iain said that ‘as a recovering addict, drugs, alcohol and sex are specialist subjects for me.’
He added: ‘I’m also bipolar and ADHD so able to work with neurodiversity.’
The star shared an email address where potential clients can set up appointments: [email protected].
He clarified that, ‘for now’ appointments will be over Zoom only.
Fans flooded the star with messages of support and pride in seeing how far he’s come, with one person writing: ‘Good for you, there is very little in life that helps others as much as true empathy.’
They added that Iain will be well able to help people suffering, ‘having been through the storm’ himself.
‘That’s brilliant, you’re brilliant,’ another said.
Iain’s mental health had suffered during lockdown when he lost his TalkRadio show, admitting to Jeremy Vine that he was ‘really upset’ by losing his job.
Iain said: ‘It does feel very odd and I know in the great scheme of things of what’s going on in the world – a guy losing a radio show on a right-wing radio station is not big news – but I’m gutted by it.
‘I love that show and I thought we made something very, very special and something unique.
‘I have no idea why they decided to get rid of a multi-award winning broadcaster, I’m really upset Jeremy.
‘It’s kind of knocked me for six, it’s knocked my confidence for six.’
Iain now hosts The Late Night Alternative on streaming platform Switch, and in June of this year was announced as the presenter of Jack FM’s new breakfast show, Iain’s Lee’s Rude Awakening.
