I was trapped in a Tesco carpark for 90 mins due to traffic – then I was fined £70
A YOUNG mum who got trapped in a Tesco carpark for 90 minutes due to nightmare traffic has been dished a £70 fine.
Ellie Brierley, 21, was trying to leave the Stretford Tesco carpark in Manchester on Sunday but was halted due to traffic from a nearby football match.
She claims congestion caused from the Manchester United versus Brighton game playing at Old Trafford stopped her from turning onto the road.
The mum-of-two had her two sons – aged 20 months and nine months – in the car with her at the time.
As she sat waiting for the traffic to move, temperatures inside the car reached 32C as her air-conditioning doesn’t work.
She tried to keep her boys cool by unpacking her shopping and giving them bits of food, Manchester Evening News reported.

Ellie eventually made it out of the parking area after one hour and 25 minutes.
She said: “The exit was blocked and the traffic lights went to green and back again four times before I could exit.
“I was then forced to turn left when I was trying to turn right because all the traffic was in the road.”
She says she was tipped over the edge by the lengthy traffic queues when her kids started to cry.
Ellie explains: “It was awful when I was in my car because everyone was hot and bothered and some were yelling at each other because they had cut each other up or couldn’t move anywhere.
“Everybody was in the exact same situation and some people were taking it to a different level – it was just mad.”
Having lived in Stretford all her life, Ellie says she knows how terrible match-day traffic can get, but she was “fuming” to get a fine.
She received the letter and opened it at her mum’s house where she “just blew”.
A spokesperson for Tesco acknowledged Ellie’s complaints and said they will be investigating.
They said: “We’re sorry to hear that this customer experienced delays leaving our car park.
” We are looking into what happened and we’ll be in touch with the customer when their appeal process is completed.”
It comes after a couple were slapped with a £70 parking fine for visiting Asda twice in one day – and have issued a stark warning to other shoppers.
Their car was recorded as overstaying nearly six hours, instead of the two quick pit stops they made.
