I was fined £110 for parking my van – next to a sign saying I COULD park there
A SPARKY was slapped with a ticket for parking his van on the pavement – next to a sign saying he could park there.
Palli Singh, 35, faces a court hearing over the penalty charge handed out when he left his Ford Transit on the curb.
The electrician had come back from a job when he saw the fine slapped on his windscreen – despite the sign above indicating he was legally parked.
Bizarrely, the other side of the lampost was another sign saying no parking.
Palli told The Sun: “The amount of penalty charge notices I have received over the years have been ridiculous.
“But this one takes the biscuit.”
“When I came back an hour later I was fuming, how did I get a parking ticket when the sign says it’s okay?!
“When a parking charge is this silly I’m happy to go all the way.
“I won’t pay a penny.”
Palli lost two appeals and now wants to go to court to and get the ticket, handed out in Lambeth, south London, overturned.
Lambeth Council admitted there had been a “misunderstanding”.
But they still ordered Palli to pay an early fee of £55 or face the full £110 fine.
The sparky, of Staines, Berks., added: “It’s a farce, i’m not paying up.
“I’m going to stand my ground and if I have to go to court then I will.
“Right above my van it said I was okay to park, so I didn’t think anything of it.
“But on the other side of the sign, it says you’re not allowed to park.
“Like any other driver, I’m not going to go round and see what the other sign says.”
Lambeth Council letters admitted: “Parking is not permitted on footway or grass verges in the Borough unless there is a sign showing that you are allowed to do so.
“There is a sign such as this near to where the vehicle parked, however the Civil Enforcement Officer recorded the vehicle was parked on the wrong side of the sign where vehicles are not permitted to park.”
Lambeth Council were approached for comment.
