A DRIVER caught speeding five times in the space of just 14 minutes has managed to avoid a ban from driving.
Darrel Chapman managed to convince a court that he shouldn’t have his licence taken away.

Mr. Chapman was dropping something off to a friend in Plymouth at the time.
He hit an average-speed camera at 50mph and then slowed down to 39 mph for the rest because he thought the road had a 40mph limit.

However, the road was in fact 30mph, which means he picked up a ticket for every speed camera he passed.

“I drove from the roundabout at Morrisons to The Elburton Inn and dropped off what I needed to drop off then carried on the other way.
“In that space of time, I got five tickets from just driving up that piece of road,” he added.
His tickets were timed between 8.55pm and 9.09pm.
Over the next few days, Darrel was amazed to find he was receiving one ticket after another in the post.
“I was quite shocked. When I got the first ticket I kicked myself and thought I should have realised.
Darrel admitted that his familiarity with the road was the reason he didn’t check for signposts.
The 44-year-old paid £100 for a speed awareness course for the first ticket but decided to contest the remaining tickets at court.
Darrell originally faced eighteen points but ended up receiving six points and a £465 fine after convincing the court that the other four tickets should come under the same offence.
“I could have been banned and fined for each ticket so it could have been much, much worse.
“But it’s still not good because I’m not what you’d call a high wager, I earn OK money but like everyone, it’s a bill you could do without.”
