I visited the new Peppa Pig World – here’s how it compares to the original

PEPPA Pig has arrived in Florida and is luring families away from Disney World with her very own theme park.

Having opened earlier this year, I decided to visit the park for myself during our family trip to Florida.

It’s a credit to how popular she is as my six-year-old was literally counting down the days until she could meet Peppa and George – rather than Mickey and friends.

While Peppa is like a British institution, I was surprised at how popular she is in America but ours were still the only British accents I could hear on our visit.

The first thing I noticed is how beautiful the park is.

There is amazing attention to detail and at times felt like we’d stepped through the TV directly into Peppa’s world.

Unlike the UK equivalent where the pig family has a section of the bigger Paultons Park in Hampshire, here, it’s all about Peppa.

Although Peppa Pig World does share a car park with LEGOLAND, guests can choose to visit one or the other or purchase a combo ticket and do both parks in one day.

The park is in Winter Haven which was around a 50-minute drive from where we were staying in Kissimmee.

We set off early to make the most of our day so I had to forgo my morning coffee but thankfully Miss Rabbit’s Diner – the only eatery on site – did a pretty good latte.

As well as the impeccably clean diner, themed to Peppa and family’s trip to the States, there was also a cinema with episodes of the show on repeat and squashy beanbags for little ones to lounge in.

Granny Pig’s Garden was a hit with my kids as it featured a mini playground with tunnels and slides, and we all enjoyed rides such as Grandad Dog’s Pirate Boat Ride, Peppa Pig’s Balloon Ride and, the standout, Daddy Pig’s Roller Coaster, which rolls right through Peppa’s yellow house on the hill.

But the highlight for us was the water park. Although it’s called Muddle Puddle Splash Pad, it’s a full-on water park complete with three water slides and squirty fountains.

I was VERY grateful I’d brought the kids’ swimwear ‘just in case’ otherwise I’d have had to fork out for a Peppa and George-inspired bikini and trunks at Mr Fox’s Shop.

And it wouldn’t be a Peppa Park without the chance to meet the pig herself and there are ample opportunities.

The main pig and her brother George delight guests several times a day with a lovely sing-a-long stage show and the characters often come out to shake trotters with guests.

One thing the park has borrowed from Disney is the free badges – if you head to guest services, you can get a first-visit badge, something my daughter was thrilled with.

Compared to other Florida theme parks, this one is quite small, but the price reflects this as a day ticket starts at $34 (£28) – less than half the price of day tickets to Disney and Universal Studios parks.

The interactive app is handy to have but not necessary for the map function as it’s obvious where all the attractions are located due to the small size.  

We visited in October and wait times were barely over ten minutes. It was a nice, relaxed atmosphere compared to the sometimes-manic business of nearby Disney World.

The park has had a lasting impression on our family – and it makes me happy that a little British pig can take on Disney World in Florida.
