‘I needed to’ Julia Bradbury ‘put on a few kilos’ after mastectomy as parents stepped in

Julia Bradbury, 51, told how both her mother Chrissi and father Michael are cancer survivors and have been feeding her up with “healthy food” as she recuperates from her double mastectomy The Countryfile star, who revealed she had breast cancer in September, shared a snap of herself posing with her mum and dad and captioned it: “Family”.

Alongside the snap, she wrote: “This is for my rock star parents (taken pre-op). Thank you for all the love and food! 

“They’re in the ’80s, still mobile, both cancer survivors, and they been with me since my mastectomy, spending time with their grandchildren and looking after me. 

“My Mama is Greek and has-been feeding me nourishing healthy food, and the good news I’ve put on a couple of kilos since my op which I needed to do. 

“Good fats, plenty of vegetables and a good selection of supplements to help me through the healing/medication process.

“And that’s OK. We’re allowed to be sad, and there are some amazing support groups and charities there to help us.

“Check yourself, look after your body, be aware… and have a cry if you need to.”

The TV host is being supported during this time by her children Zeph, 10, and twins Zena and Xanthe, six, as well as her husband Gerard Cunningham.

Her diagnosis followed a mammogram she booked in July on an annual recall.

The previous year she found a lump which was a cluster of benign micro-cysts.

She wrote: “I’ve now joined a sadly ever-growing club. Around 18,000 mastectomies are performed on the NHS in England every year.

“That’s up 50 per cent in the past 10 years. (Roughly 100,000 women have a mastectomy in the U.S. every year.) Since the ’90s breast carcinoma in situ (the type of cancer I was diagnosed with) has tripled in women and doubled in men. 

“One person every 10 minutes gets diagnosed with breast cancer.”
