‘I made £500,000 from my side hustle Facebook group’

When lockdown disrupted entrepreneur Charlie Day’s ambitious business goals for 2020, she quickly had to draft up some new ones to adapt to the more remote and restricted way that life had to be. Little did she know that one of these goals would “change her life completely” – and it all started with a Facebook page.

Explaining how lockdown surprisingly presented her with “the perfect opportunity” to launch a group as the world moved online, the 34-year-old mother of one from Chelmsford, Essex said: “One of the things that I wanted to do was to create a group for other business owners to help each other out.”

While previously running and franchising a successful preschool phonics business called Phonics with Robot Reg with her sister, Ms Day continued: “I was forever meeting people for coffee and lunches and telling them how they could improve their businesses or how they could franchise their businesses.

“So I set up the Entrepreneurs Growth Club. Another one of my Covid goals was to launch my own podcast and create a members-only area where I could help people more closely to improve their business sales. And that’s exactly what I did.

“I had 10 Covid goals and I executed them all. I’ve now stepped down from the other company that I ran with my sister. It still exists, but she runs it by herself and the Entrepreneurs Growth Club and Charlie Day Sales, as my business is now called, has taken over.”

After just one week of launching, Ms Day had 250 sign-ups on the Entrepreneurs Growth Club Facebook page.

She said: “I just couldn’t believe that 250 people wanted to listen to me and be a part of something that I had created.”

The group started out as more of a discussion forum for small business owners. Ms Day said: “I didn’t have a plan. It was just for a bit of fun.”

But after the many stages of lockdown started to take their toll, Ms Day ran a positivity challenge to help group members. Ms Day said: “People really got on board with that, and it was off the back of that that I launched my membership. I had a thousand people in the group at that point.

“The membership is called the Entrepreneur Sales Lounge, and it’s all about making more sales in your business.”

Building on the initial membership, Ms Day now offers a high-level mastermind, one-to-one strategy sessions, and a sales course called Sell Your Way to Success and in doing so, has generated a turnover of £500,000.

She added: “This started up as just a little side hustle project. It was never going to be my full-time job. That wasn’t the plan, but that’s what’s happened.

“I never thought in a million years that I would set up a Facebook group and it would turn over the amount of money that it does – and I’m only just getting started.”

“The community is absolutely amazing. There’s no competition. Everyone works together and that’s what I think it should be all about in business. I don’t think we should be competing with each other and stabbing each other in the back to get sales.

“I believe that there’s a way that we can all work together to do amazing things. It means the world to me and I think that we can do great things in this industry. In terms of money, it’s changed mine and my family’s life completely.

“I’ve got a little boy. He’s six and we’ve been to Lapland and Florida and Dubai and Disneyland and everything, and we’ve got a bigger house. It has really transformed everything for us.”
