‘I know the suspense is killing you’: Christina Ricci’s character finally revealed in Tim Burton’s Addams Family spin-off series Wednesday
Fans were treated to a special glimpse of Christina Ricci in Tim Burton’s upcoming Addams Family spin-off series Wednesday.
The sarcastic, yet totally iconic character will be getting her very own live-action show, directed by Tim Burton who is behind the likes of Alice in Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, making his television directing debut.
The coming-of-age comedy horror will follow Wednesday’s years at Nevermore Academy, where she will learn to develop and hone her abilities.
What are those abilities? Psychic powers. In doing so, she aims to prevent a killing spree gripping her local town and solve a mystery that involved her parents two decades before.
Penelope actress Ricci famously played Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993).
The eerie trailer begins with a black car entering Nevermore Academy, and also shows Catherine Zeta-Jones in character as Morticia and Luis Guzman as Gomez.
In the trailer’s final scene, Ricci appears with vibrant red hair and a black flower in her hands.
‘Good evening girls,’ she says to Wednesday (Jenny).
‘I’m Miss Thornhill. I trust Enid has given you the old Nevermore welcome.’
Although it’s been more than 30 years since Ricci played the iconic character, she couldn’t stop raving about Jenny’s ‘incredible’ performance.
‘I saw some of the wardrobe photos before I went [to set] so I knew [what she looked like in character] and I was like, it’s such a great modern take on Wednesday,’ she told Variety.
‘It’s so true tonally to the heart and soul of [the original], but it’s then it’s incredibly modern and it’s great.’
It was recently announced that Uncle Fester will be played by Fred Armisen.
Armisen was seen making his entrance in the show in the latest promo, complete with the character’s signature lack of hair and a black
The macabre Addams Family clan was created back in 1938 by cartoonist Charles Addams, and has been brought to both the big and small screens on numerous occasions over the years.
Wednesday is set to premiere on Wednesday November 23 on Netflix.
