‘I have to stop taking life for granted’ – Gavin and Stacey’s Ruth

“When I was younger, I used to think that there was this magical point in the future when everything was going to be perfect. But, let’s be realistic, the majority of my years are behind me now!”

“So, this decade is about having my eyes open to the good things that are around me – and enjoying them.”

Ruth said that as she gets older she now appreciates all the life lessons her mother, a GP, gave her when she was younger.

She told the November issue of Good Housekeeping: “My mum has taught me a lot about the importance of taking things one day at a time and not panicking about the future.

“She’s also taught me practical things, such as how to sew a button on, how to make Welsh cakes – and how to park in a high street using the car’s reflection in shop windows!”

Ruth also revealed she is still close friends with Gavin & Stacey co-star James Corden, 44, despite him becoming a household name in the US since presenting The Late Late Show.

The actress, who is married to producer David Peet and is stepmother to his three children, added: “We’ll always be friends because we shared this life-changing experience.

“Neither of our careers would be what they are if it wasn’t for Gavin & Stacey, and we’re both incredibly grateful for that.”

“It’s funny because it’s 15 years since the first episode and so much has happened since then, yet it feels like yesterday.”
