I get up at 5am on holiday to get best sunbed – people moan but I don’t care

A HOLIDAY “early bird” has provoked fury after rising at 5.30am to nab the best sunbeds.

TikTok user Kenny Neilson has boasted about being the first to claim the loungers when soaking up the sun at overseas resorts.

Yet his glee was faced by fury – though he has remained defiant against critics labelling his antics “sad”.

He captioned his TikTok video, appearing to be filmed in the Turkish holiday resort Bodrun, with the words “Holiday sun lounger wars”.

The 13-second clip shows him telling viewers: “Morning, everybody – half five in the morning.

“Thought to myself – get right up there this morning, man.

“Got up and got the four best stops – here we go!”

Yet people responding seemed less than impressed.

One, Gary MacGregor, told him: “That’s a new level of sadness.”

More suggested “Sad”, “OMG how sad” and “Such a sad life” – while another joked: “Sounds a brilliant holiday, getting up same time as work.”

But Kenny made no apologies for his actions, sardonically hitting back: “All the raging people sitting at the back wishing they could see their kids.”

Etiquette analysts have been divided on what approach to take with sunbeds when on holiday – whether to grab them early and then how long to hog them for.

One expert has suggested a 30-minute limit on reserving one with a towel – yet another insisted on a “first come, first served” system.

And another viral video this week caused hilarity among viewers by showing desperate Brits racing to claim their spots in the sun on the Greek island of Rhodes.

Bodrun early riser Kenny, from Glasgow, has previously extolled the virtues not of basking in the sun’s rays but instead immersing yourself in freezing cold water.

His Polar Bear Club in Scotland’s second city offers ice baths as cold water therapy, which he credits with helping his own recovery from mental health problems and alcoholism.

The club opened doors at its new location in Glasgow’s trendy Finnieston last month.

Kenny previously spent 80 minutes in a -50C chamber during a competition in Poland, and is looking forward to welcoming the yearly International Dipping Championships in Glasgow next year.

Ice baths have gained popularity in recent years – helped by Wim Hof’s BBC show Freeze the Fear, hosted by This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Not Going Out comic Lee Mack, which saw celebs brave the cold to boost endorphins.

Others who have praised ice bath therapy include pop star Lady Gaga, who has spoken about it helping combat chronic pain, as well as fellow chart-topper Madonna and former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
