THERE are all sorts of objects that can block your Wi-Fi – but little did I know there was one lurking right underneath me.

We’ve all heard about things like microwaves and even fish tanks that can cause Wi-Fi woes.

But I couldn’t explain the constant dead zone that was my bed.

Waking up each morning to check work emails and Facebook become impossible without moving.

After rummaging around under my bed shifting things around I realised what was causing the connection chaos.

It was my disused weights.

The stack of steel plates right underneath me was preventing Wi-Fi signal from getting to my iPhone.

As soon as I moved them away, the connection magically returned.

It turns out metal objects between your router and your devices can obstruct signals – not just weights.

So if you’ve noticed the connection is slower on your bed, it might be a good idea to look underneath and have a much needed tidy up.

In extreme cases underfloor heating is known to cause problems too for the same reason.

“It’s not just electronics that interfere with your WiFi signal,” Virgin Media explains.

“Metal can also wreak havoc with your connection.”

“Kitchens are often home to heavy-duty metal appliances (think ovens, fridges and washing machines), as well as signal-emitting electronics like microwaves, making them a particularly inhospitable environment for your router.”
