I drive a fake cop car – people say it’s illegal, but I’ve been ok so far

A MAN has revealed on social media that he drives a fake cop car, but hasn’t had any trouble from the law – so far.

The motorist drives a BMW with police livery, and finds it funny that most drivers are scared of overtaking him on the motorway.

The user @liamtalkscars has a TikTok profile full of videos showing his fake police car.

He also says that because most motorists confuse his vehicle with a real police car, they treat him differently.

Recently, he uploaded a video that shows dozens of vehicles behind his fake police car on the motorway.

He captioned the video: ‘Your car doesn’t look like a police car – also them: scared to overtake me.’

In a separate video, the man shows the specially designed handbrake system in his car, and it reveals a little more about the vehicle’s actual use – as part of a film unit on set during various scenes.

According to the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulation 1989, private vehicles are not strictly allowed to use retro-reflective Battenburg markings.

Battenburg markings are a pattern of high-visibility markings currently seen on many types of emergency service vehicles in the UK.

The video has gone viral on TikTok with 5.9million views – and has had 987 comments.

Users were quick to comment on the video.

One said: “If the owner got a quid for all the times he’s been asked if it’s legal, he would be driving a Lambo.”

Another said: “I never understand the fear of overtaking a police car. I always do it.”

A third pointed out: “This has to be illegal.”

The poster answered: “It’s perfectly fine.”
