I don’t pay any rent in London thanks to my renovated Ford Transit van – here’s the best bit
A BRIT has proudly told how he doesn’t have to fork out on sky high rent in London after moving into his renovated Ford Transit van.
The musician has rigged out the red vehicle exactly to his taste while packing in all the amenities to make the ex-haulage truck a home.
His incredible camper caught the eye of content creator Jubel London, who trawls the capital city for renters to find out what their paying.
The YouTuber spotted the bloke parking up his mobile home when he asked for a tour – to which the musician happily obliged.
He welcomed cameras inside his swanky camper van to show that on-the-road living isn’t as bleak as it may seem to most Brits.
Jubel quickly realised this was “not a typical van”, after entering through the stable door that replaced the Ford Transit Luton’s shutter.
The rear of the motor is adorned in wood, while the artistic inhabitant also added a long chalkboard to doodle on.
He had sketched some music notes as well as the name he had adorably christened the camper with, Box Rouge.
The owner told Jubel: “This is my house – my house on wheels.”
The content creator was pleasantly surprised as he entered the van and was audibly wowed by the size of the space.
It fits a corner couch, makeshift music studio, kitchen and bathroom – but arguably the most impressive aspect is the large bed.
The frame has been mounted on the wall to optimise the available space, with the musician boasting that he could comfortably sprawl across it.
Jubel pointed out: “You know, usually with camper vans you’ve got really small beds, but … that’s a massive bed.”
The London-based musician climbed on top of it to prove its roominess before beaming: “Starfishable bed!”
He has extraordinarily equipped his motor home with a built-in sound system to ensure his jam sessions still pack a punch.
The bloke explained he likes to start his day by grabbing his bass guitar from its mount on the wall and strumming a few chords.
He joked: “My start-up of the day is usually wake up, bass up.”
The music-mad owner then showed off the skylight in his Ford camper, as well as how he fits his huge iMac computer inside.
Another unique aspect of the van is its decked-out roof, which the bloke made to “use it as a stage to take to festivals.”
He demonstrated its durability while explaining how the marvellous handiwork is accompanied by solar panels, saying they made his pad “self-sufficient.”
Next, he led Jubel into the bathroom after the content creator noticed the facilities, which are “rare” in most converted vans.
But this savvy rent dodger has both a camper toilet and a shower crammed in so he isn’t caught short while out on the open road.
He continued: “I’ve got an oven as well, got a hob. There’s not much that I don’t have.
“It feels like a home and you know, the world is my garden.”
Jubel added: “I can imagine just being sat here and its quite loungie.”
The transformation of the three-seater van impressed social media users, with many debating ditching rentals for life on the road.
One said: “That would cost a fortune anywhere in London for the square footage. It’s beautiful. Brilliant!”
Another said: “Great way to live. Well done you.”
A third wrote: “Such a cool set up! ‘The world is my garden’, yes it is.”
And a fourth added: “Woooo! Outdoor life goals.”
We previously told how a man dropped out of college to live and travel in a van he had bought from Facebook Marketplace.
Alexander James, 19, said the move has saved him thousands of pounds in rent, but there was one catch.
He explained he hadn’t been able to shower in three weeks due to the lack of facilities in his motor, as he normally resorts to washing in a river or using bottled water.
Another van-life lover quit her rental flat to move into a £10,000 Mercedes Sprinter Van.
Amy Nicholson, 31, said she saves £1,500 a month on rent and instead pays a mere few quid to pitch up on campsites.
