Hyundai’s updated SUV exposed
The South Korean brand has made a raft of running changes to its popular seven seat family SUV, with a big focus on safety.
Hyundai’s big family SUV is getting a raft of new features for 2022.
The seven-seater’s updates focus on bringing new safety, infotainment tech and styling features.
Hyundai has also raised the price of the Santa Fe from between $850 and $1700 depending on the model.
The rise in price means the Santa Fe range now kicks off at $45,550 (before on-road costs).
All grades now come with a centre airbag, which is designed to stop head clashes between front seat passengers during a crash.
Hyundai has also added a new braking feature across the range. The safety tech applies the brakes automatically if it has detected the airbags have deployed and there is no drive input on the brake or accelerator pedal. This is designed to help stop a secondary accident.
Active grades score new chrome exterior highlights and Elite versions gain a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, heard front seats and LED tail lights.
Potential buyers still have the choice between a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine that makes 200kW/331Nm and is matched to an eight speed automatic transmission or a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine making 148kW/440Nm paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch auto.
Petrol powered versions drive the front wheels exclusively and diesel models come with all-paw grip.
All car makers are suffering long wait times to deliver new cars due to a severe shortage of semiconductors, a vital component in new cars.
But according to data compiled by car sales website PriceMyCar the Santa Fe has one of the shortest wait times at 55 days. This compares favourably to the mechanically identical Kia Sorento that has a wait time of 274 days and the average wait time for all Hyundais is 111 days.
