Huw Edwards says ‘angry man’ ordered him to remove face mask on tube: ‘He was offended’
Huw Edwards, 59, revealed he was asked to remove his mask on the tube in London by an “angry man”. The BBC broadcaster wore a Welsh themed face covering, which apparently left him “offended”.
Taking to Twitter, Huw wrote about his experience while revealing he will still be wearing a mask on public transport despite rules on face coverings lifting on July 19.
“Angry man on tube demands I take off mask,” he wrote in view of his 131,000 followers.
“Turns out he was offended by the Welsh theme.”
He continued to reassure his followers: “Anyway. I’m still going to wear a mask on public transport and indoor spaces — to protect others and show respect for NHS staff. Diolch.”
Fans soon took to the comments section to share the disbelief at the situation.

“Why anyone would be angry at your mask is beyond me,” one wondered.
“It’s lovely. Glad to hear you’re going to continue with one in public spaces & indoors.”
“English aren’t making a great show of themselves at the moment. Feel sorry for the decent ones,” another sighed, referencing the aftermath of the Euro 2020 result.
A third added: “I just want to know where you got the mask so I can get one too!”
While a fourth joked: “That’s it then. My Scotland ones I made will be worn from now on in London.”
Alongside the parody snap, he wrote: “Flags are now mandatory — very pleased with my new backdrop for @BBCNews at Ten.”
However, shortly after it was posted, Huw’s tweet was deleted.
In a follow up post he addressed its removal, writing: “Gutted. My pro-flag tweet has been cut down in its prime. By order.
“But it will be back tomorrow — by popular demand. Meanwhile enjoy this magnificent flag — one of my favourites.
“#SixNationsRugby #FRAvWAL,” he added while replacing his former flag image with a BBC flag in its place.
BBC rules state: “Nothing should appear on your personal social media accounts that undermine the perception of the BBC’s integrity or impartiality.”
In September, BBC director general Tim Davie has said he would consider firing presenters who make major breaches of impartiality guidelines on social media.
“I am prepared to take the appropriate disciplinary action, all the way to termination,” Mr Davie said.
He said he would also be able “to take people off Twitter” if necessary.
