The Hobart Hurricanes have snapped their losing streak by stunning the Perth Scorchers on their home deck on Saturday.
Rachel Priest played through the pain as the Hobart Hurricanes snapped their winless run, but it was exceptional death bowling from Nicola Carey that ultimately got them over the line.
In a match that came down to the wire at the WACA, Carey took a wicket and conceded just four runs in the final over to steal a crucial win by just two runs against the Perth Scorchers.
“She’s the finisher, with bat or ball. Nicola Carey, take a bow,” Alex Blackwell said.
“She executed her yorkers so expertly well.
“I wonder if she doesn’t get nervous anymore because she does it so often.”

The victory ended the Hurricanes’ four-match losing streak and it sees them back in contention for the finals.
Batting first, Priest played through the pain as she notched up her eighth WBBL half century. The Hurricanes’ skipper struggled with her broken finger early in her innings, but made the most of her second chance when she was caught off a no ball.
She went on to score a courageous 54, before she fell to Teneale Peschel. Her knock included five boundaries and three sixes as she continues to lead by example.
The impressive Lilly Mills was back in the wickets when she claimed the big scalps of Richa Ghosh and Mignon du Preez in one over and from there it was a procession of wickets as the Scorchers pegged the Hurricanes back.
Alana King impressed with the ball too, with the Hurricanes stumbling along to their total of 8-137.
It should have been a straightforward chase for the Scorchers, particularly as they boast the tournament’s best opening partnership.
Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney average 70 together this season, but Belinda Vakarewa broke their dangerous partnership early when she had Mooney caught for 1.
And Devine (25), after swatting two fours and a six, then followed her opening partner to the sheds when she was caught off the bowling of Molly Strano.
A good knock from Chloe Piparo came to an end when she was stumped by Priest for 20 and the Scorchers’ chase hit a wobble with the departures of Chamari Athapaththu (33) and Heather Graham (24).
In the end, it was Carey with her superb figures of 2-17 who guided the Hurricanes to victory.
Spin sensation
It’s been a breakout tournament for Scorchers’ spin sensation Lilly Mills. The 20-year-old Queenslander picked up her 12th wicket of this season’s WBBL, which puts her right behind the competition’s leading wicket-taker, Jess Jonassen.
