DC has given CBR an exclusive preview of Human Target #2, by Tom King and Greg Smallwood. As the preview reveals, Justice League International’s Tora Olafsdotter/Ice will join the title — and she’s seemingly the detective story’s femme fatale character.
In the first issue of the DC Black Label series, Christopher Chance/Human Target subbed in for Lex Luthor at a press event, saving the notorious supervillain from a gunman. Afterwards, as the two celebrated, Chance was poisoned — but not by Luthor. In stead, Luthor himself was the target. Thanks to some help from Doctor Mid-Nite, Chance was given twelve days to live and determine just who might have been trying to kill Luthor. Later in Human Target #1, Doctor Mid-Night revealed that the Justice League International was involved in some way, finally giving Chance’s investigation some much-needed direction.
Considering the size of the Justice League International, the number of suspects still remained pretty large. However, at the start of Human Target #2, the titular character is eating at the restaurant below his place when he discovers from the cook that a woman is waiting in his office. When Chance returns to his office, he finds Justice League International member Ice waiting for him. The framing of Ice’s introduction and the page that follow — complete with flirtation — is clearly a nod to the femme fatale role in detective stories. Just how closely she’ll hew to that role is clear at this time, though.
