If you’ve been paying attention to TikTok, you’ll know that the coastal cowgirl aesthetic is set to be this season’s biggest trend.
The #coastalcowgirl hashtag on TikTok currently has more than 40 million views, with fashion-conscious users posting a variety videos of the fashion trend, which melds the cottagecore, coastal grandmother and yeehaw agenda aesthetics into one.
Think long and flowy linen, frayed denim shorts, loose knits, straw hats, and standout boots – doily meets Dolly, if you will.
‘The coastal cowgirl aesthetic uses Western-influenced styles but in lightweight fabrics and neutral shades which adds a beachy vibe,’ says SilkFred Head Stylist, Megan Watkins.
‘This trend is all about laid-back, carefree fashion – think statement cowboy boots paired with denim cut-offs and plaid shirts.’
Thankfully, the trend is made up of a lot of wardrobe staples like white tank tops, denim jackets and linen dresses, but it also incorporates a few big trends, namely cowboy boots.
‘Unlike the coastal grandmother trend of 2022, the coastal cowgirl is younger, funner and all about summer vibes,’ Megan continues.
‘Although the trend is rooted in effortless style, the real secret to pulling off this trend is to let the details shine. The true coastal cowgirl pairs subtle flairs such as a gingham print, flared sleeve or a bold boot with staples such as your fave denim shorts or a classic white tee.’
And according to Charlotte Johnson, clothing buyer at Pour Moi, the boots you choose can make your ensemble.
‘The beauty of them is that you can go as bold or as subtle as you want,’ she says.
‘If you’re looking to make a statement then white or patterned boots would be for you, but if you want something a little more classic then black or brown are ideal.’
