How to make the perfect Martini – King Charles’ favourite cocktail
Craving a tipple fit for a King? Well, look no further than King Charles III’s favourite cocktail – the Martini.
While some say the King is partial to a 50/50 Martini (which calls for equal parts gin or vodka and dry vermouth), others insist the Dry Martini (which has less vermouth) is his favourite.
Patrick Pistolesi, Master Mixologist with Italian RTD cocktail brand NIO, tells Metro.co.uk: ‘It may or may not come as a surprise to many that the iconic Dry Martini cocktail, made famous by the James Bond franchise – has also long been King Charles’ go-to tipple.
‘Rumour has it that the King enjoys this apéritif every single night and won’t travel anywhere without his own personal supply of gin, vermouth, and even his own Martini glass.’
Indeed, King Charles’ friend Count Tibor Kalnoky previously said on the Channel 4 documentary The Real Windsors: The Outspoken Heir, King Charles III: ‘He likes a martini before dinner, that’s for sure.’
The Count also divulged that the King even likes to bring his own Martini glass with him whenever he travels.
Meanwhile, Bridesmaids director Paul Feig told James Corden on The Late Late Show in 2022 that he once fixed King Charles III a ‘very dry’ martini at a tea party for the monarch’s 60th birthday.
‘It was lovely,’ he added, ‘we had a great time.’
If you want to learn how to make this Royal fave, then you’re in luck, because it’s a simple, if very punchy recipe…

‘Having managed a gin bar myself I know a few things about making the perfect Martini,’ Patrick says. ‘King Charles is said to enjoy his dry and composed with gin and dry vermouth poured over a large ice cube.’
But even though you don’t need much, this simple cocktail can ‘be easy to get wrong’ according to the Mixologist.
‘I would recommend mirroring the Sovereign by choosing your favourite brand of gin and vermouth and pouring them over ice,’ instructs Patrick.
