How to keep a paddling pool clean and tips for safe storage
Summer is here and that means lots of family days in the sunshine.
If you’re looking to keep the little ones, your pets, or even yourselves cool, a paddling pool is a great option to enjoy a refreshing dip in the scorching heat.
But once you’re done, you may be stuck on how to empty and clean the pool to prevent mold and bacteria from forming.
Then, you have the task of storing the paddling pool safely until next summer.
Here’s everything you need to know when it comes to cleaning and storing your paddling pool for summers to come.
How should you clean a paddling pool?
A small child’s paddling pool should be cleaned after every use, according to InTheWash.
Once you have drained your pool, one thing you can do to clean your pool is to use specialist chemical sprays to scrub away any bacteria and stop more forming, or create your own with some simple household products.
To do this, first, you should wipe down the pool with a dry cloth, before mixing a solution of two parts white vinegar and one part water into a spray bottle.
Spray down the pool before using a cloth to clean, and rinsing the pool of any leftover mixture after.
Once you’ve used another dry towel to wipe off any water, your pool is clean and ready to store.
If you plan to use it the next day, you should leave the pool upside down to prevent debris from building up.
Top tips to keep your paddling pool clean
When your pool is in use, there are a few ways you can reduce dirt and debris and keep the pool clean:
- Putting a ground sheet under your pool to limit the amount of dirt underneath being transferred in as people get into the pool
- Put a water bowl near to your pool so people can rinse their feet before entering
- Using a tennis ball in the pool to trap oils from sun cream
- Keep a fishing net handy to scoop out any debris each day
- Buy a pool cover to stop stray bugs and leaves from entering
- Use sterilising fluid to keep pool water safe and limit bacterial growth
- You can also use chlorine and a pool filter to keep water safe for larger pools
- Rinse and refill your pool after every use
How should you store a paddling pool after use?
It’s important to store your pool in a cool, dry place to prevent bacteria or other pests from damaging the pool.
Once you’ve deflated your pool, it is recommended to store it in the box it came in, but this isn’t always possible if the box becomes damaged or misplaced.
If this isn’t possible, you can use things such as a large rubbish bin with a lid, tote boxes, or zip-up storage bags.
Make sure you keep all of the parts of your pool together and fold the pool down as compact as you can to make storage easier.
If your pool comes with a liner you can use talcum powder when storing to prevent them from sticking together and to inhibit mildew growth.
