Supermarket loyalty cards have become more popular than ever in the wake of the cost of living crisis – with people keen to take advantage of schemes that not only give you money off your shopping, but can also allow you to afford such treats as meals out and visits to the cinema.

Two of the biggest schemes are the Tesco Clubcard and the Sainsbury’s Nectar card – you can rack up points on both with your weekly shop which can not only go towards money off your grocery bill but can also give you vouchers to be used at a number of different partner organisations.

All you need to do is scan your card every time you shop in either place, and the points will be added to your card.

But if you lose your card or you’ve left it at home, it can be easier to store yours in your Apple Wallet – meaning that you’ll always have it to hand.

With that in mind, how to do you add your Clubcard and your Nectar Card to it?

How much are your Clubcard points worth?

When you shop with Tesco Clubcard you earn one point for every pound you spend in-store.

If you buy petrol from a Tesco pump you will receive one point for every £2 spent, every £1 spent on Tesco Mobile is worth one point, while every £4 spent on a Tesco credit card is also worth one point.

You’ll also get one point for every £1 spent using a Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card.

You can exchange these for vouchers worth £2.50 for every 250 points you accumulate (or vouchers worth £1.50 for 150 points for online shopping), or you can also put these towards vouchers for a number of reward partners, including restaurants such as Pizza Express and Zizzi, streaming service Disney+ and leisure outlets including Thorpe Park and Cineworld.

The reward partner points are currently worth triple the number of points (i.e 50 points will get you £1.50 worth of vouchers for these, but this will be reduced to double points from June 14 (so 50 will get you £1 worth of vouchers).

How much are your Nectar points worth?

Currently, one Nectar point is worth 0.5p – the equivalent of 0.5% cashback on your shopping.

You can earn one Nectar point for every £1 spent on qualifying goods when you shop either in Sainsbury’s or online – although certain products such as gift vouchers and baby milks are not eligible.

You can also collect one Nectar point for every litre of fuel you buy at a Sainsbury’s petrol station.

As well as putting points towards money off your shopping, you can also use them at almost 300 brand partners including Argos, Habitat, Esso, and eBay.

Other options for spending your points include buying a hot drink at Caffe Nero, a stay in a participating hotel, movies from Sky Store, or even a trip on EuroStar.

Nectar card holders can also now enjoy discounts in store on over 300 items, including Ariel All-in-1 pods, which will cost £5 down from £10.50, Heinz Baked Beans, which will go from £1.40 to 95p, and 200g jars of Nescafé Gold Blend, which will be £4 down from £8.10.
