How The Avengers’ Hawkeye Created Moon Knight’s Weapons
A Moon Knight and Hawkeye crossover is in the realm of possibility.
With the incoming arrival of Moon Knight on Disney + on March 30th, fans are ecstatic about the latest hero from the Marvel Universe coming to life on screen. The arrival of his series comes not too long after Hawkeye’s series and the two share a key connection in the comics: Hawkeye created Moon Knight’s weapons. This begs the question of whether or not their shared comic book history may play out in the MCU’s future , especially with both shows coming out relatively close together.
How did Hawkeye create Moon Knight’s Weapons?
In the West Coast Avengers #23 by Steve Englehart, Al Milgrom, Romeo Tanghal, Christie Scheele and Tom Orzechowski, Hawkeye finds himself trapped in Ancient Egypt during the year 2490 B.C. While battling against the forces of Kang the Conquerer as Rama-Tut, Clint encounters the mighty God of the Moon himself, Khonshu. Clint gained favor with Khonshu because he made weapons for the people opposing Kang as his variant, Rama-Tut.
Clint crafted boomerangs, darts, and throwing irons made from ivory. Hawkeye’s rationale regarding the weapons was that not everyone would be adept at archery like he is, so he made projectiles that were reflective of the time he was in. The comic also reveals that Marc Spector received the same weapons that Hawkeye made and have been passed down through the generations. Because the weapons were favored by Khonshu, they became the weapons he presented to anyone he chose as his Fist. It’s these same weapons that Moon Knight inherited thousands of years later while Clint lives within the current, same timeline.
Will there be a Moon Knight and Hawkeye Crossover?
A Moon Knight and Hawkeye crossover is in the realm of possibility. Kang the Conqueror has already been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki set up the storyline that established variants, and time travel has been initiated in films like Endgame. Hawkeye and Moon Knight‘s proximity for their respective releases along with variants being introduced in Loki may also hint at a crossover on the horizons.
As new teams of Avengers start to debut within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s possible that Clint will start the West Coast Avengers. If that comes to fruition, then the introductions of Kang and Moon Knight will definitely yield a storyline that could include Clint making the original weapons that get passed on to Moon Knight. In the comics, Hawkeye making Moon Knight’s weapons was pivotal to Moon Knight joining the Avengers. These plots could play out onscreen whether Moon Knight ends up joining the Avengers or a newly formed West Coast Avengers. With his connection to Hawkeye, Marvel could pair the two as teammates in a West Coast Avengers film or series.
