How do you change your Snapchat username?
OVER the years, Snapchat users grew frustrated with the lack of flexibility regarding the change of username.
Fast forward to almost 10 years after the application launched, Snapchat installed the option for its users to finally change their username from when they first signed up.
How do I change my Snapchat Username?
To do it, you must tap the Bitmoji icon in the top right corner of the Camera.
Tap on the gear icon to access settings.
Choose Username, followed by Change Username.
A popup will then appear reminding people they can only change their username once per year.
Type in the new username you want and hit Next.
Finally, log back into Snapchat for it to take effect.
When did the Snapchat change go into effect?
Your Username is the original name associated with your account – the one chosen when you first created your Snapchat account.
Snapchatters will only be allowed to switch to a new handle once per year, the feature became available in February of 2022.
And anyone thinking of going for usernames previously used by someone with a big following, think again, as you’ll only be able to create completely new ones.
Old usernames you’ve already used yourself way back are also off-limits.
The feature is available to both iOS and Android users, and won’t affect things like friendships, Snap code and Memories.
“Username Change is one of the most highly requested features from our community, and one that we know is incredibly important for so many Snapchatters,” the company said.
On Snapchat, you have two different “names”.
The first is a Username, which is the fixed name associated with your account – it remained unchangeable until February of 2022.
And then you also have a Display Name, which is how you appear to others on Snapchat.
It’s a bit like a Twitter Handle and a Twitter Display Name.
How do I change my Snapchat Display Name?
Changing your Display Name is actually very easy.
Tap the Cogwheel in My Profile to open up Settings.
Then tap Name under the My Account section.
Enter your new Display Name and then choose Save.
People who first added you will still see the display name you originally chose.
But new friends will see your updated display name.
And don’t forget that if someone has you in their phone contacts, they might see the name saved there instead.
