Young actor Aljon Mendoza is working for the first time with Jayda Avanzado in the upcoming TV series “Teen Clash,” and to better make their working relationship a tad easier, he reached out to Dingdong Avanzado and Jessa Zaragoza’s daughter.

Mendoza plays Ice, the charming songwriter, while Avanzado is Zoe, an aspiring musician who is bent on joining her school’s music jam in order to redeem herself after an unfortunate incident in the past caused her grave embarrassment.

“Nu’ng nalaman po namin na magkakaroon kami ng project together, talagang kinilala namin ang isa’t isa (When we knew that we would do a project together, we really got to know each other). We started texting each other. Inaalam ko ‘yung hobbies niya, kung paano namin tingnan ang mga bagay (I made it a point to know what her hobbies are, how we look at things),” Mendoza said during the iWant series’ mediacon Saturday.

Mendoza revealed that they did a lot of effort to make their first team-up work.

“Before mag-taping, ang dami naming goals na gusto naming magawa. Sobrang collaborative kasi every time may scene kami, tinuturuan niya talaga ako,” he said. (Before taping, we had so many goals that we wanted to work on. It’s so collaborative because each time we had  a scene, she really helped me).

Mendoza disclosed that Avanzado was an inspiration especially when he felt “lowbatt” (unenergetic) at work.

“Halimbawa, may scene na madaling araw tapos lowbatt ako, papahawak lang ako sa kamay niya. Ako kasi, ang love language ko is physical. Every time may hahawak sa kamay ko, napi-feel ko ‘yung energy. Parang nare-recharge ako,” he said. (For example, there’s a scene in the wee hours of the morning and I feel lowbatt, I would just ask her to hold my hand. It’s because my love language is physical. Every time somebody touches my hand, I can feel the energy. It’s like I am being recharged).

What Mendoza appreciates most is Avandado’s willingness to work with him.

‘Yung trust pa lang, debut acting niya ito, tapos launching project niya, pinagkakatiwalaan niya ako.  Sobrang thankful ako,” he said. (The trust alone, it’s her debut acting, and her launching project, she trusts me. I am super thankful.)

“Teen Clash” is directed by Gino M. Santos and produced by iWantTFC and Black Sheep. It streams for free in the Philippines starting March 17 on the iWantTFC app (iOs and Android) and website (iwanttfc.com). A new episode drops every Friday at 8 p.m. (Manila time). It also stars Bianca de Vera, Zach Castañeda, Gail Banawis, Ralph Malibunas, Fana and Andrea Abaya.  /ra
