Hot new Audi RS4 and RS5 to get race-car kit for the road

AUDI has revealed new versions of its hot RS4 and RS5 that will go faster, sound better and corner more quickly.

A new Competition Plus Package available for the Audi RS4 estate, two-door RS5 Coupe and four-door RS5 Sportback will add bespoke equipment to create the ultimate version of these cars.

While in Germany the packs will be called the Competition Package and Competition Package Plus, here we’ll probably just get the latter.

For starters, this’ll bring new coilover suspension that allows the RS4 and RS5 to sit 10mm lower to the ground.

However, owners will also be able to manually adjust it to sit another 10mm lower – a whole 20mm lower than a standard car.

You also get adjustable dampers, a higher spring rate and stiffer stabilisers.

If you have no idea what we’re on about, just know this is the sort of thing race cars have to get around corners as efficiently as possible.

But Audi reckons long-distance comfort hasn’t been lost, so you’ll still be able to use these cars to commute in or drop the kids at school.

Also new for the Competition cars is quicker steering, special Pirelli tyres designed for road and track use, upgraded ceramic brakes with a new ABS tune for better braking and a sharper automatic gearbox.

Despite the Audis being famously all-wheel drive, the new pack will see a re-tune of the cars’ sports differential too, sending more power to the rear wheels in Audi’s sportiest Dynamic driving mode.

The RS4 and RS5 will get the same 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with 450hp, but the new pack will mean a quicker sprint from 0-62mph for both – 0.2 seconds quicker for the RS4 and 0.1 seconds for the RS5.

The dash now takes 3.9 seconds in the RS4 and 3.8 seconds in RS5, but both cars now get an increased top speed of 180mph as standard.

And its not all about the techy bits underneath, adding Audi’s Competition pack gets you some visual goodies too.

On the outside that means 20-inch alloys and a new sports exhaust that not only sounds the business, but has black tailpipes for an angrier look.

Those match the Audi and model badges front and back, which are finished in gloss black.

Trick Matric LED headlights are standard on the RS5 but optional on the RS4.

Inside, you get unique sports seats with a honeycomb pattern, an Alcantara steering wheel and black and red seatbelts.

Audi is yet to reveal how much the its new Competition Plus Package will costs in the UK, but in Germany is will be 11,875 Euros or around £10,000 on top of a standard car.
