HOLLYWOOD legend Steve McQueen’s classic Ferrari is up at auction and set to go for an eye-watering price.
The star’s 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4, which he purchased brand-new, is predicted to sell for up to £5.5 million – which is more than 300 times its original price.

It would have cost about £12,750 to buy at the time, but it is now tipped to sell for precisely 343 times the that amount when it goes under the hammer.
McQueen was born in Beech Grove, Indiana and was famous for movies like The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, Le Mans and, perhaps most notably, Bullitt, which includes the iconic Ford Mustang vs Dodge Challenger car chase.
RM Sotheby’s are selling the stunning red motor, which can do 0-60mph in just six seconds and boasts a top speed of 165mph.
McQueen, who died in 1980 aged 50, owned the car for over four years.
It will be sold as the centrepiece lot at the auction in Monterey, California, US, on August 19.
A RM Sotheby’s spokesperson said: “Delivered new to Hollywood for motoring icon Steve McQueen, this Ferrari was owned by McQueen for more than four years.
“Restored to McQueen’s specifications from 2010 to 2013 by Ferrari Classiche, this desirable late-production example built with long-nose body configuration has been exhibited in Maranello’s Museo Ferrari and at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza.
“The subject of numerous feature magazine articles, it presents a unique opportunity to own an exceptional example of an iconic Ferrari GT with full Ferrari endorsement and unsurpassed Hollywood history.”
Other cars for sale at the auction will be a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider by Scaglietti – set to sell for up to £2.55million, and also a £1.19million 2021 Ford GT Heritage Edition.

“We’re thrilled to announce the former Steve McQueen 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 as our first major consignment, a perfect car to kickstart the coming lineup..”
This comes after a rare Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 is going under the hammer and is expected to fetch an eye-watering amount of money.
