Holly Willoughby says ‘loneliness hurts’ in new post after This Morning break

This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby, who began her annual summer break from the ITV show earlier this month, has shared a somewhat cryptic message about “loneliness” on social media.

It comes after she left fans feeling worried when she failed to acknowledge that she’d be taking time away and left without saying her usual goodbye.

The 42-year-old star would usually take a pause from the show during the summer holidays alongside her former co-presenter Phillip Schofield, but many viewers claimed things felt a little different this time around.

As well as presenting shows like This Morning, Dancing On Ice and Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof, Holly also owns her own wellness brand WYLDE MOON.

From this account, she posted a mysterious tweet about how “loneliness hurts” in view of the platform’s 179,000 Instagram followers this evening.

The post consisted of an image of a woman sitting alone and staring out to sea with the listicle headline “7 ways you can start feeling less lonely”.

The caption next to the post read: “Being alone is not the same as being lonely. Alone time can be brilliant.

“It’s natural to crave some solitude if you’ve spent a while surrounded by people.

“Being ‘peopled-out’ is very real, but so is being ‘people-less’ when you really want to be ‘people-full.’

“Loneliness hurts, and when something hurts, we should address it,” the caption finished, before asking followers to click on a link to view practical advice from a clinical psychologist.

Holly’s fans took to the comments section to send messages of support and to share their own experiences in response to the post.

“So true, thanks for sharing,” wrote Kath, as Paul added: “Be kind people love [is] all we have.”

“Lovely ideas,” Casey commented, while Pamela shared a personal story about her family, writing: “Being lonely hurts deeply.”

During Holly’s absence from This Morning, Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond have been stepping in to host.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
