Holly Willoughby pulls out of This Morning after getting shingles

Holly Willoughby, 42, warned her 8.2 million followers on Instagram today that they should not expect to see her on telly at all this week.

The much beloved ITV presenter made a worrying revelation on her Instagram story, writing against the show’s background: “Hi… Just to let you know I may be away for the rest of the week as I have Shingles,” adding an emoji of despair.

Holly continued: “I’ll be back as soon as I’m better. Huge love, Holly xxx.”

Shingles is a common, but painful, condition caused by the same virus as chickenpox and also mainly affects the skin in a similar manner.

According to the NHS, when a person has chickenpox, the virus can then go dormant within the body and if it is reactivated later in life it results in shingles.

The main symptom of shingles is getting painful, blotchy rashes that usually extend across only one side of the body. Blisters form over the rash as the body heals and it is contagious until the blisters have completely scabbed over.

Holly was set to make her return to This Morning following a two-week break for the Easter school holidays.

Her final day on the This Morning sofa was March 31, when she revealed on Instagram that a half-day at school earned her a surprise visit in the studio.

In a candid snap, Holly could be seen eagerly chatting to her three children as production crew fussed with cameras in the background.

Holly dubbed the moment her “favourite interview of the week” as she wrote online: “The kids popped into This Morning as they have broken up from school. Soooo lovely having them there.

“They have grown so much since the last time they were here.

“So that’s me for two weeks… I’m off to be with them and see if I can break the record for the most chocolate eggs consumed in 24 hours… wish me luck!”(sic)

Hosts Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle stepped in full-time to front This Morning over the Easter break, but may extend their stay slightly as it has not yet been revealed who will replace Holly this week as she recovers.
