Holiday warning – Brits face more flight cancellations this week due to strikes

BRITS are being warned to expect flight cancellations this weekend due to planned strikes.

Airlines are being told to halve their flight schedules this Friday due to air traffic controllers walking out across France.

The strike is set to take place from 6am on Friday until 6am on Saturday with the action called by the SNCTA union, the largest among controllers.

France’s DGAC aviation authority said the cuts will affect the entire country, meaning airlines affected will include easyJet and Ryanair.

They said in a statement: “Cancellations and significant delays are to be expected.”

They told passengers to “delay your journey if possible and to get in touch with your airline”.

However, the cancellations could also have a knock-on effect on other European flights as well.

According to Cirium, around 1,852 are currently scheduled to depart on Friday.

French flag carrier Air France has already confirmed they would be cancelling more than half of its short-haul and medium-haul flights on Friday.

Sun Online Travel has contacted easyJet and Ryanair for comment.

The strikes aren’t the only thing affecting flights this week.

Edinburgh Airport closed its airspace earlier this week after the Queen’s coffin was flown from Scotland to London following the death of Her Majesty.

And Heathrow Airport confirmed today that a number of flights would be delayed during the Queen’s procession.

The airport warned of similar delays during the Queen’s funeral on Monday 19 September.

Airports around the UK have already warned holidaymakers to allow extra time to make their flights as road and train travel is expected to be busy during the current period of mourning.

Members of the public are already queueing for the Queen’s lying in state at Westminster Hall, which opens today, and thousands are still placing floral tributes in Green Park.

The Queen will then be laid to rest at 11am on Monday, September 19.
